Five beneficial properties of honey. Honey is a food produced by domestic and non domestic bees from nectar or honeydew.
Nectar is foraged on the flowers of many plants.
Nectar is excreted by nectar glands present inside the flower but also externally (extra-floral), such as on the leaf petiole of some plants (cherry tree, laurel tree).
Nectar and honeydew are collected (bottinati), processed, dehydrated and stored in the honeycomb. Honey is used as nourishment by bees during periods when there is no nectar import, such as in the winter season or between major flowering.
Today we present the beneficial properties of honey.
Honey has antibiotic properties: honey, particularly the "Manuka" variety, would contain enough hydrogen peroxide to make it a powerful antibiotic and disinfectant on small skin lesions.
Honey is a sedative and cough suppressant: according to Tel Aviv University, honey can be considered as a substitute for cough syrups.
Antibacterial properties: according to some research (under investigation) honey may possess beneficial properties useful in treating inflammatory states caused by acne.
Honey has anti-inflammatory properties: it is very effective against insect bites, such as mosquitoes. It relieves itching and eases redness caused by insect bites in general.
Honey is rich in polyphenols, powerful natural antioxidants that can help our bodies prevent many diseases and slow down the aging process.
