Covid-19-like virus discovered in bats in Russia

Coming from bats and called Khosta-2 is the new virus that could potentially infect human cells

New respiratory virus comes from bats and has been found in Sochi National Park in Russia

This virus has been able to infect human cells through the spike protein that attaches to receptors of angiotensin-converting enzyme. The problem highlighted by experts is its resistance to monoclonal antibodies and vaccines developed so far against Covid-19.

Research teams are working to make a vaccine that can also protect against sarbecovirus, not just the upcoming Sars-Cov-2 variant.

This is because many of the current vaccines are designed for specific viruses; the list is constantly evolving, and we need to keep working on vaccines to protect us from all sarbecoviruses.
